Some folks have responded well to the character of Teddy, found sprinkled throughout my comics over the years, most recently here and here. I just thought you might find it cool that Teddy is a stock comic character who’s been with me for over 20 years.
This is a drawing I made in 1991 (you can see the date and an early form of a signature I was trying out on the far right). This version of Teddy is my brother Mark’s bear – the very fat body with the tiny feet that always made me laugh because he’s so cute and wouldn’t be able to walk if he tried. Here you can see Teddy doing all sorts of fun things. Yes, there is even a Hitler teddy in there trying to bring the party down, but that’s not gonna’ happen! Too many Teddies having a good time!
The other cute thing about this Teddy is that he doesn’t have a mouth, so it gives him a profound mime-like quality, like an Emmett Kelly clown, or Mr. Bean. This is another thing that makes him interesting to draw and put into situations. Even without a mouth, he can be very expressive, but always observant and interested.
