A malapropism is “the wrong use of one word instead of another word because they sound similar to each other, with results that are unintentionally funny” [Cambridge Dictionary Online].
Mrs. Malaprop is a well-known comic character from Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s 1775 play The Rivals, and is the etymological source of the word.
Subjective and Objective. People misuse both terms all too often. Is it a case of malapropism? Or definitive ignorance? Hard to tell. But it annoys the bejeepers out of me.
Problem is, I’m the youngest wife amongst all my husband’s siblings, so they already think I’m a trifle. So when I use one, they look at me like, “Poor thing. The word is posterity, not posteriority.” Oh well.

I adore malaprops. Unfortunately people don’t always realize I am doing it on purpose and end up thinking I’m just stupid.
