Mister G Kids @ 1 – St. Patrick’s Day

St Patricks Day
This week is the first birthday of Mister G Kids! I’ll be celebrating all week long by re-blogging some of my favorites from the last 365 days (and some of yours too).  I’ll be writing up an anniversary blog post by the end of the week to look back at the year in review.
This comic, St. Patrick’s Day, first posted on March 16, 2012, was the very first Mister G Kids comic.  It has a special place in my heart for several reasons.  Firstly, it launched the comic so I will never forget it.  Secondly, it originally appeared on my old art blog with Mike Newman, and it was the response to it from friends that encouraged me to try it as a daily comic, on its own separate blog.  Thus Mister G Kids was born.  Finally, I like to look back on it to remind myself that the art doesn’t have to be perfect if the joke is good.  I don’t always follow my own wisdom, but it’s nice to have this touchstone!
As the year has passed by, the one thing I’ve always noticed about St. Patrick’s Day looking back at it were all the details I put in the background.  With some rare exceptions, as I got rolling with the comics through the following months I pretty much dispensed with backgrounds altogether in order to make the composition more spare (and to save time!)
So here it is.  If you’ve never seen it before, I hope you enjoy it!
Happy birthday, Mister G Kids!
